Mechanic
Duties and Responsibilities: To ensure a vehicle operates at maximum
efficiency, the auto mechanic must have knowledge of mechanics, computerized
automotive systems, and the mechanical profiles and specifications of a variety
of automobile makes, models and years. He also needs an understanding of
computerized repair and testing systems, and must have exceptional eye-hand
coordination, physical stamina and skill with tools. The mechanic applies all
of his knowledge and talent in several broad areas of responsibility –
troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and customer service.
Salary: The
median annual salary for
mechanic and
automotive technicians was $36,610 in 2012. The highest earners in the field
made about $60,070, while the lowest-paid took home $20,810.
Education:
1) Complete a High school Education or GED
2) Enroll in a Vocational Education program
3) Obtain a Certificate
4) Receive Employer Training
5) Become a master Mechanic
